Gluten-Free Travel Must-Haves

Aug 14, 2019

Packing for a trip, or just wanderlust? Today, I’m sharing my gluten-free must-haves for traveling with celiac disease.

Bars

While bars of all kinds are amazing and essential for travel (you never want to be stuck with nothing to eat), I try to never leave home without them even when I’m not traveling. Stock up on Thrive Market for travel & every day using my link, and you can get 25% off your  first order and a free trial. A huge discount, on top of their already wholesale prices!

Here are some of my favorites that I always have on hand, thanks to Thrive Market: Kind, Larabar, Luna bar, Simply Elizabeth’s

Toaster Bags

Whether or not you think you’ll end up using them (like my mac and cheese… keep reading!), toaster bags could come in handy. If you have gluten-free bread but no way to toast it, you’ll be glad to have these on hand - especially if there’s nothing else to eat for breakfast. It’s not ideal for home (I have a separate toaster), but for traveling it’s safe and convenient! Plus, they’re only a few dollars!

Gluten-Free Dining Cards

Whether you’re traveling domestically or internationally, these are good to keep on hand. One Bite Gluten-Free offers free gluten-free dining cards! Just sign up for my newsletter below, and it will redirect you with directions on how to download it. If you want physical copies or need them translated, send me an email (onebiteglutenfree@gmail.com), and I’ll get them to you!

Nuun Tablets

I always carry Nuun tablets everywhere, because I have POTs (I’ll talk about this in my celiac disease story - which is coming to the blog soon!), but I think these are a good celiac essential, too. They are like gatorade without the calories or sugar, and they come in a convenient tube. Just throw one in a bottle of water, and you’re good to go! If you’re glutened and become dehydrated, or get sick from food/water (not gluten-related), you’ll have these ready to help you rehydrate and feel better more quickly.

Mac and Cheese (& all the food…)

This one might sound a little unconventional. I haven’t had much mac and cheese since I was a kid - but while packing for my recent trip to Italy & Greece, I had a great idea. To pack gluten-free mac and cheese in my suitcase! We stayed in an Airbnb with a kitchen, so I figured: if there’s nothing else to eat, mac and cheese will give me enough calories until my next meal. It’s non-perishable, packable, and easy to make - it definitely came in handy and it’s being added to my permanent packing list! Be sure to pack other foods, too! Like I said, you don’t want to be caught with nothing to eat.

I packed Annie’s gluten-free, Banza, and Daiya - both are so yum (and Daiya is gluten-free and dairy free!). All of these can be purchased on Thrive Market! Who doesn’t love saving money on expensive gluten-free food… way cheaper than you will find them in the store.
