Gluten-Free Breakfast in Boston

Jan 22, 2020

One of the biggest let-downs of being gluten-free is breakfast. There seems to be a major lack of gluten-free breakfast spots! Obviously… eggs are gluten-free. But the environment - toast, pancakes, waffles? No thanks.

Finding a good gluten-free breakfast is hard. But I’m here to help! If you’re traveling to Boston, here are the best spots to stop for a delicious gluten-free breakfast!

Gluten-Free Breakfast Boston

Whether you’re visiting or just trying to refresh your brunch routine, I got you covered.

Please note: none of these restaurants are dedicated gluten-free facilities. Use your own judgment when trying new places and foods - make sure to ask your own questions!

the friendly toast
If you’ve been in Boston and have never been to the Friendly Toast, you are missing out. Whether or not you’re gluten-free.

Most of their menu can be made gluten-free, and they are so careful with this. Tell your server you have celiac disease, and they will know exactly what you can and cannot eat. Their food is incredible, and the service is good. They have vegan options, too!

They have mimosa flights! Unfortunately, they can’t guarantee they’re gluten-free… so I stuck with a traditional mimosa. But, it’s cool to look at!

Note: reserve your spot in line before you go. This place is nuts, all the time, and you’re not going to want to wait. But it’s worth it!

Locations: Cambridge, MA / Back Bay / Burlington, MA

kane’s donuts
Do donuts count as breakfast? This seems to be a familiar question here on One Bite Gluten-Free, but we’re still not sure. It’ll be included anyway, I guess! Kane’s has the best donuts around. They’re made safely, and they are delicious. Kane’s was the first real gluten-free donut I’ve had, and it’s worth the cheat (meal?).

I had Kane’s after breakfast at The Friendly Toast on my birthday weekend last year. I was stuffed and picked at the donut all day - but was devastated when I finally finished!

Locations: Two International Place, 90 Oliver Street, Boston, MA 02110 / Saugus, MA

zaftig’s delicatessen
So, I’m going to be honest - I haven’t been here yet. But, I’ve heard nothing but incredible things - from gluten-free people and gluten-eating people.

Their menu is clearly marked, and the reviews on Find Me GLuten-Free are fabulous. It’s on my list - I’ll get there soon!!

They have more than just breakfast, but their breakfast is served all day.

Locations: 335 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA / Natick, MA

inna’s kitchen
Great food, and more importantly, amazing service. When you tell your server you have celiac, they will ask about glove changes, separate surfaces, all the important things to prevent cross-contamination.

They’re located in Boston Public Market, and are open for breakfast through dinner! So if you go to Friendly Toast for breakfast… you haven’t missed out!

Locations: 100 Hanover St. Boston, MA 02108 / Newton, MANew Paragraph

Have you tried any of these great places? Have any other recommendations?
